In the mood to laugh? Dad is Fat tells the joys, triumphs, and difficulties of being a parent. A parent of five in the city no less! Jim Gaffigan tells his experience with parenthood in a funny way, yet not shaming others or being showy at how amazing of a parent he is. He honestly shares the good, bad, and ugly. The compilation of stories spans being in a dating relationship with his wife to the present time when their fifth child was born. It may be a couple years old, but still enjoyable.
Listening to this book made all the difference. From the intonation and the pauses, or even Gaffigan’s voice, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I laughed aloud multiple times and could not stop smiling, no matter how hard I tried.
Admittedly, there were some jokes or skits I had heard before (since this book was written in 2013). I could still laugh at the stories or lines, yet there were many repeats if you have heard Gaffigan before. This was one detraction from the book. If I had been reading the book, I may have felt disappointed because I could have gone online and watched him on stage telling the story. But, since I was listening I got most of the experience anyway.
All in all, I would recommend watching Gaffigan’s stand up, if given the option. However, this would be a fun book to listen to on a long drive with other people in the car. Or, if you are in the mood for something light and relaxing after a long day at work, and you don’t want to watch tv, this is a good fit.
