Caramel popcorn, hot chocolate, warm autumn tea, cuddle blankets, comfy clothes… it is time for a re-read of another favorite: The Night Circus.
“The Circus arrives without warning…”, those words haunt me every time I pick up Night Circus to re-read, and every time I end the annual reading. This is a work of art, a book with twisting and turning, magic and deception, love and tragedy, centered around a circus. I could not tell you why I originally connected with this book, but it made a profound impact on me. When Autumn rolls around, a craving hits me. I crave to enter the circus and get reacquainted with my friends, subsequently, I am unable to read this book without some homemade popcorn. They belong together.
Yes, the characters are relatable. Yes, the setting is magical. Yes, the plot is intricate. To me, it has everything. Which may be the reason I have attached tangible attachments to the book to remind me to read it as the season comes around… who knows.
I warn readers, this is not for everyone. Close friends of mine who enjoy similar books to me have disliked the style Morgenstern writes. I happen to enjoy it, she keeps me on my toes with an air of mystery in her voice, and at times I feel lost. But, it all ends up coming together before I get frustrated. Her second book, The Starless Sea, is even more intricate. Yet, this is what makes her books amazing to re-read for me. I always see something I hadn’t the first time around. As a reader, this makes reading a wonderful experience. Also, side note, I didn’t realize how many awards Night Circus had received until this review! I suppose more people have enjoyed it than I realized.
